Limited Combustible

The use of Limited Combustible Cable (LCC), also called CMP-50, is a life safety measure that Axiom encourages all clients to consider. In the event of a fire, LCC produces up to 20 times less smoke than standard plenum cable (cable rated for use in air duct spaces in buildings).

The insulation of LCC is made of a synthetic material called fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP). Aside from producing less smoke when burned, FEP allows LCC to withstand higher temperatures for longer periods of time than ordinary cable. In addition, LCC lasts longer than standard cable and is more tolerant of prolonged high humidity or exposure to corrosive chemicals or pollutants.

LCC offers superior life safety advantages in buildings where large groups of people congregate, such as schools, multi-level office buildings, churches, hotels, casinos, and auditoriums, as well as in facilities where inhabitants may have mobility issues, such as hospitals, nursing homes and day care centers. Data centers, which typically contain a substantial cable component, are logical places for LCC, as are banks and other buildings in which valuable items of merchandise, documents or bank notes are stored.

Specifying LCC for your project adds approximately 10% to your materials expense, but the advantages in fire safety are significant. Furthermore, you may be able to reduce your insurance premiums by choosing LCC.
